Job Title: Anticipated Middle School Principal Department: Senior Leadership Team/Administration Start Date: Anticipated July 1, 2026 (work year is 12 months) Contract Duration: To be negotiated with the Superintendent Reports to: GCVS Superintendent Salary Range: $115,000 to $130,000 Note on Position Availability: This position is currently an anticipated vacancy, contingent upon the formal Board of Trustees approval of an internal administrative transition. GCVS is proceeding with the recruitment process to ensure leadership continuity for the 2026-2027 school year.
Position Summary: The Middle School Principal at Greater Commonwealth Virtual School (GCVS) serves as the primary educational leader for the middle school community. This role is responsible for ensuring a high-quality, rigorous, and engaging online learning environment that meets the diverse needs of GCVS students across the Commonwealth. The Principal provides leadership in curriculum development, instructional oversight, staff supervision, and student support services within a virtual framework.
Duties and Responsibilities: ? Lead the development and implementation of a rigorous middle school curriculum tailored for synchronous and blended virtual delivery. ? Supervise and evaluate instructional staff, providing regular feedback on virtual teaching strategies, student engagement techniques, and digital tool integration. ? Facilitate professional development focused on data-driven instruction and the latest trends in educational technology. ? Monitor student progress using digital analytics and assessment data to ensure academic growth and achievement. ? Prepare routine reports and presentations for administration and the GCVS Board of Trustees. ? Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe virtual school culture that encourages student participation and community building. ? Oversee student discipline, attendance, and social-emotional support systems. ? Collaborate with all departments to ensure all students receive required accommodations and support in their virtual classrooms. ? Manage daily operations of the middle school, including scheduling, staffing, and resource allocation. ? Maintain frequent and transparent communication with families, students, and staff ? Coordinate and oversee the scheduling and administration of all district and state-wide standardized
Page 2 testing. ? Ensure compliance with state regulations for virtual schools and maintain accurate student records. ? Collaborate with the Superintendent and administrative leadership team on school-wide strategic planning.

Has experience working in middle school education, school leadership and student support services. ? Familiarity with the MA Educator Evaluation Framework, observation tools, and coaching strategies. ? Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum and methodology of effective virtual teaching for all students. ? Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain a student-centered, equity-focused approach. ? Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents. ? Demonstrated exemplary skills in oral and written communications including excellent human relations skills. ? Ability to keep and maintain organized and detailed accurate records and to proactively meet deadlines. ? Possesses strong organizational skills and interpersonal skills. ? Demonstrated skill in supervision, collaboration, family engagement, and problem solving.
Experience and Licensure: ? Experience leading, supervising, mentoring and evaluating educators preferred. ? Experience working in or closely with Massachusetts public schools strongly preferred. Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in education and school leadership. ? Master’s degree or higher in Education, Counseling, or related field required. ? Appropriate Massachusetts Principal licensure required
Location Preference: Applicants residing in the Massachusetts area are strongly preferred, with the ability to travel to locations across the state and attend GCVS events as needed.
